Scholarships, Awards, and Bursaries
There are several scholarships, awards, and bursaries available to you. SFU offers a directory for Canadian Indigenous Students including information about student loans and sponsorship options.
The following is a selection of awards available but this list is not complete. Please refer to SFU’s Student Services database and the Indigenous Student Centre award directory.
For Indigenous students
Are you a high school student or transferring to SFU from a college or university? Apply for SFU’s Indigenous Undergraduate Student Entrance Award.
Scholarships
Scholarships recognize the outstanding academic achievement of continuing SFU students. There are many scholarships; the following are available specifically for Indigenous students:

Clyne Family Award for Indigenous Students (Faculty of Education preference)
For all SFU students
The Undergraduate Scholars Entrance Scholarships (USES) are designed for domestic and international students who demonstrate ongoing academic and community contributions.
The Uggla Family Scholarship is intended for students who face financial barriers to post-secondary participation.
External awards are also to be considered as an undergraduate student such as BC Scholarship Society and Indspire Awards.

The primary resource is SFU Student Services’ Financial Aid and Awards. Access the SFU Awards, Bursaries and Scholarships Database Search Application
In the dropdown menu under “student focus” select “Indigenous”. At the time of this webpage’s publication, there are 26 results for Indigenous students.
Please note, that you are eligible for additional funding, in the Student Focus dropdown, select “single parents,” “disabled students,” or “mature” if any of these apply to you.
The secondary place to look for awards is SFU’s Indigenous Student Centre. The ISC offers a directory of scholarships, awards, bursaries, and emergency funding.
Work-Study
Beyond scholarships, SFU offers a work-study program for paid opportunities to participate in research-based projects.
Graduate students
If you are a current graduate student (Master’s or PhD) or considering graduate studies, there are many awards available to you. Please visit our resources for Indigenous graduate students.
