explorASIAN 2020 - Virtual Festival
explorAsian 2020 Asian Heritage Month
May 1 - 31
A month-long series of events celebrating Asian Heritage Month in May – launches the evening of May 1st, 2020. Vancouver City Hall will be illuminating in red to signal the opening of Asian Heritage Month in Canada and the start of Virtual explorASIAN. To commemorate the occasion, VAHMS will be live-streaming the event on explorASIAN’s Facebook from the north steps of city hall. We will be joined by local musicians Vince Mai, Noriko Kim Kobayashi, and Kage, who will perform the explorASIAN theme song.
2020 marks the 24th anniversary of Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society (VAHMS) founding. Throughout these years, the VAHMS has made sure to fulfill their mission of recognizing Asian Canadian participation as an integral part of Canadian society. VAHMS believes in the power of community and are determined to continue promoting cultural understanding, diversity, respect, and inclusion. The 2020 explorASIAN Festival’s theme, Pan-Asian Cultural Connections, opens more opportunities to expand National Asian Heritage Month celebration to more cities in Metro-Vancouver. Signature VAHMS Connections & “Interconnected Project” initiatives are aimed at bringing galleries and cultural organizations to partner and cross-promote events with us.
