Admission deferral request

You must accept your admission offer and pay your non-refundable admission deposit to be eligible to complete the form below. If you have not accepted your offer, your deferral application will be cancelled at the time of receipt.

Requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and deferrals are not a guarantee. 

Please be advised:

  • You may only request a deferral of admission once, up to one full year and to any of the terms within that year (Fall, Spring, or Summer start). Requests to extend a previously approved deferral will be denied.
  • Students who plan to attend another post-secondary institution during the deferral period are not eligible to defer. Instead, we encourage you to reapply.
  • You may be required to submit additional documentation in support of your deferral application
  • You will be required to meet the conditions of your offer in order to defer
  • If you are an Entrance Scholarship, Award, or Bursary recipient, please ensure you understand the implications of your admission deferral prior to submitting this form.  If you have any questions in relation to your offer of funding and your consideration to defer your admission, please contact fiassist@sfu.ca.

You will be prompted to pay the admission deposit fee at that time. This fee is non-refundable and required to proceed with considering your deferral request.

It is my responsibility to ensure that I drop all courses for the term to which I was originally admitted, otherwise I will be responsible for any and all tuition assessments and penalties. I further understand that if l enroll in transferable courses at another postsecondary institution during my deferment, my admission deferral will become void and I will be required to reapply to Simon Fraser University.
