- You need a minimum of level 2 on Mathematics.
General admission requirements
Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) with a minimum overall grade of approximately 4. We calculate your admission GPA on:
- 4 core subjects 1
- 2 elective subjects
Subjects must be academic—Category B Applied Learning Subjects are not accepted.
1 From 2024 onwards, Citizenship and Social Development (CSD) will not be included in the calculation of admission GPA. Instead, SFU will calculate your admission GPA on 3 remaining core subjects and 2 elective subjects.

Recognition of the HKDSE
SFU is aware of recent media reports that the University is no longer recognizing the HKDSE. These reports are inaccurate: the University continues to recognize the HKDSE before, in, and after 2024. SFU has contacted the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) to clarify this situation. Please also refer to HKEAA Press Release issued on 29 January 2024.
