Science Technical Centre

The Science Technical Centre is a resource available to researchers, teachers, laboratories, staff and industry for technological support in repairing, designing and building electromechanical devices.

We are experts across three units – the machine shop, electronic shop and glass shop. We have state of the art equipment, software, tools and machinery to design, repair and manufacture electronic and mechanical devices.

The Science Technical Centre is also a champion of sustainability and the circular economy – we give equipment a second life by re-using, refurbishing and repurposing technology. This results in cost savings across SFU.

If it lifts, heats, beeps, weighs, spins or shines – we can probably fix it or make it.

Electronics Shop

Electronic Technologists maintain and repair a vast array of scientific apparatus and are also experienced in designing and building custom electronics for specific research needs.

Machine Shop

Our craftsmen are experts in the design and fabrication of research equipment using metal, wood and plexiglass.

Glass Shop

Our specialist is one of only a few glass blowers trained in scientific glassblowing. He designs and custom makes one-of-a-kind glassware for your research needs.
