SFU Beedie faculty Scott MacEachern honoured with 2025 Excellence in Teaching Award

SFU’s Beedie School of Business is proud to announce that faculty member Scott MacEachern has been recognized with a 2025 SFU Excellence in Teaching Award. A dedicated educator and seasoned professional in accounting and data analytics, MacEachern exemplifies the highest standards of teaching excellence, innovation, and student engagement.
MacEachern, a Chartered Professional Accountant with a Master of Science in Professional Accounting (specializing in Data Analytics) from Colorado State University, brings extensive industry experience to the classroom. Before transitioning to academia, he held leadership roles in the financial accounting sector, including serving as CFO of a multinational fibre optic company, auditing for a Big Four firm, and co-owning an accounting practice. MacEachern has also written chapters and crafted data analytics problems for Wiley and Pearson.
Today, he teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in financial and managerial accounting, audit, personal tax, and data analytics. He is currently developing the EdTech app "Accounting Apocalypse,” a Duolingo-style accounting training program.
MacEachern’s commitment to making accounting accessible and relevant sets him apart as an educator. By integrating real-world scenarios into his curriculum, he ensures that students see the practical applications of their learning. His lively teaching style includes case studies, group projects, and active discussions, promoting an inclusive and engaging learning environment where all voices are heard.
“The awesome students here at SFU are a joy to teach. Their enthusiasm and attitude keep things fun and drives me to continuously improve. Seeing the ‘light go on’ when a student internalizes a new concept is the best.”
MacEachern has previously received the 2022 TD Canada Trust Distinguished Teaching Award, the highest teaching honour at SFU Beedie. This latest recognition further exemplifies his impact in shaping the next generation of accounting professionals.
