Your MBA Your Way

In-person

The in-person option suits students commuting from the Metro Vancouver Regional District. You'll progress through Business Foundations courses with a small, diverse group of working professionals, providing ample opportunities to network, collaborate meaningfully, and learn from various viewpoints. Classes are held two evenings a week, with occasional weekend intensive sessions, in downtown Vancouver, the heart of the business center.

Online

The online option is designed for professionals prioritizing flexibility without sacrificing meaningful connections. You will have access to the same renowned faculty across all modes of study and benefit from mentorship, career support, and dedicated advisors to ensure you get the most out of your MBA experience. Collaboration and teamwork are the core of our curriculum, ensuring you graduate with enhanced knowledge and skills and a robust business network.

Hybrid

The hybrid option is tailored for professionals seeking career advancement through online and in-person learning, offering the most flexible programming for your MBA. Navigate each course in the mode that suits you best, maximizing rich in-person classroom experiences and innovative online environments. The GDBA: A pathway to the MBA

If your undergraduate performance is not reflective of your current ability, the Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (GDBA) could be a good starting point on your MBA journey.

The GDBA is a competitive credential that offers the rigour of MBA-level courses with more flexibility. Delivered 100% online, your GDBA can also be applied toward a future MBA at SFU Beedie. Completion of 14 GDBA credits allows prospective students to apply to ladder to the MBA Program. The GDBA CGPA will be taken into consideration when applying to the SFU MBA Program.

GDBA students who have completed 2 of the following 3 courses: Financial and Managerial Accounting, Business Analytics and Managerial Finance with a grade of B or higher, are granted GMAT/GRE waivers.

Requirements

Undergraduate degree

An undergraduate degree with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0/4.33 (B) or a grade point average of at least 3.33/4.33 (B+) based on the last 60 credits of undergraduate courses from a recognized university. Please review the academic requirements for the country where you completed your degree.

*Candidates can upload unofficial transcripts during the application stage to expedite the process.

GMAT or GRE

GMAT/GRE waiver policy

We have decided to consider GMAT/GRE waivers for the MBA program. Applications must be submitted in full, including all supporting documents uploaded to the online application form.

Candidates are required to meet one or more of the following requirements to be eligible:

  • Academic Merit with Quantitative Courses
    Completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD with a minimum academic average of B or equivalent and completed a minimum of two quantitative courses in any degree with a minimum grade of B+ or equivalent.
  • Academic Merit without Quantitative Courses
    Completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD from a Canadian or American University with AACSB or EQUIS accredited University with distinction (CGPA of 3.5 or equivalent).
  • Academic Merit with Enhanced Work Experience
    Completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD with a minimum academic average of B combined with a minimum of five years of full-time post-graduation work experience.
  • Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (GDBA) from SFU
    Started the Graduate Diploma in Business Administration at Simon Fraser University and have completed 2 of the following three courses: Financial and Managerial Accounting, Business Analytics and Managerial Finance with a grade of B or higher.
  • Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from another institution
    Completed a graduate diploma in business administration at a Canadian institution, combined with a bachelor's degree with a minimum academic average of B or equivalent, completed a minimum of two quantitative courses, and obtained a grade of B+ or higher in each quantitative course. Please note that course credits are not transferable to the SFU Beedie Full-Time MBA program.
  • Postgraduate Diploma or Post-Baccalaureate Diploma from Douglas College
    Completed a defined type of Post Degree Diploma or Post-Baccalaureate Diploma at Douglas College with a 3.0 CGPA or higher. For eligible diploma programs, contact mba@sfu.ca. Please note that course credits are not transferable to the SFU Beedie Full-Time MBA program.
  • CFA Level 1
    Completed any level of the CFA exam and a bachelor's degree with a minimum academic cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0/4.33 (B) or a grade point average of at least 3.33/4.33 (B+) based on the last 60 credits or equivalent.

GMAT/GRE Waiver Process

Applicants who meet the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth criteria must complete the GMAT/GRE waiver form and attach the form to their application.

Applicants who completed the CFA Level 1 can provide proof of their CFA designation directly to the GMAT score section of the application.

GMAT/GRE waivers are not guaranteed. Approvals are made on a case-by-case basis. If a waiver cannot be granted, applicants will receive a notification that a GMAT or GRE is required for their application to move forward.

Resume & work experience

Applicants should have a minimum of four years of full-time professional work experience with some management experience, following completion of an undergraduate degree.

A current resume that includes academic experience, work experience, memberships in professional associations, and volunteer and community activities.

We take a holistic approach in accepting students for our program. We take into consideration your work and life experiences in addition to your grades and test scores.

References

You must submit contact information for two professional references on the online application form. Ideal references include your current supervisor or any individual with whom you have a professional relationship who can attest to your professional and educational journey. References must be submitted from their professional email addresses. You can review the Appraiser's Form.

Essay

The essay questions are designed to help us get to know you. There is no “right” answer. Essay prompts are provided in the application system.

Language proficiency

Please review the language requirements for your country of citizenship and/or the country where you completed your degree.

The minimum university requirements for the six test scores we accept are:

Internet-based TOEFL

93 with minimum of 20 in each category. In order to satisfy the requirement, applicants must achieve the scores listed above on a single test date. TOEFL MyBest (super-scored) results will not be used.

Paper-based TOEFL

580 and TWE 5

IELTS (academic)

Overall band score of 7.0 of the academic (NOT general) test with a minimum of 6.5 in each section.

CAEL

Overall 70; minimum 60 in each section

Pearson Academic (PTE)

Overall 65; minimum 60 in each section

Cambridge English Qualifications

C1 Advanced - minimum score of 193
C2 Proficiency - minimum score of 200

Please note: Candidates below the English Language requirements will be asked to retake the test.

Official documents

Transcripts

  • Official transcripts for credit courses from the Registrar of each post-secondary institution you attended must be sent directly to the Beedie Graduate Programs office. If the transcripts are issued to you, they must be signed and sealed by your post-secondary institution.

  • For transcripts not in English or French, an official translation must be supplied. An official translator must include, as part of their translation, a declaration that they received an official, sealed copy of the transcripts that they then proceeded to translate.

Transcripts may be sent electronically via a secure delivery service, such as Parchment, or directly from official institutional email addresses to gradap@sfu.ca. Otherwise, please arrange to have your transcript sent to the following address:

Applicants must instruct GMAT or GRE to send the original score report directly to the MBA Office.

English Scores

For TOEFL, SFU's Institution Code is 0999, a departmental code is not required. Code for TOEFL results: Department code 01; Institution code 0999.

For IELTS, log in to the website of the IELTS test centre and click 'Apply for additional TRFs' in the left-hand menu of your results page. Fill out the application form online.

In India, the British Council is able to transmit electronically to SFU. Please use the following information when submitting your test scores: Organization ID 2036 - Simon Fraser University, 8888 University Drive, Burnaby BC, V5A 1S6.

For all other scores, please follow the instructions outlined by our Graduate Studies office.

  • Round 3: March 17, 2025
  • Final Round: May 5, 2025

Please keep in mind that we process applications as they are completed, and admissions and scholarship decisions are made between application deadlines. You do not need to wait for a deadline to apply. Extensions to the final round deadline will be given on a case-by-case basis.

In this step, you’ll need to create an account within our application system. Once your account is created, you can save your application progress and continue where you left off.

The application fee is $110 CAD (students with Canadian transcripts) or $150 CAD (students with international transcripts).

Step 3: Upload Your Documents

It's time to upload your documents to your online application. Once you successfully upload all of your required documents, your application is complete and will enter the formal review process. We begin reviewing applications for interview consideration as soon as we receive all application components. Candidates will hear back on an interview decision within two weeks of application completion.
