For students who are hearing impaired or hard of hearing, a residence room can be equipped with a flashing light on the smoke alarm should it be required. It is the responsibility of the student to make the Room Assignments Coordinator aware of the need for this accommodation. For students who require the aid of a guide or service dog, the Residence Office will attempt, in consultation with the student, to make available the most suitable accommodation.

For students who require an attendant, the Residence Office will attempt, in consultation with the student, to make available the most suitable accommodation. Students will need to identify their needs in their application to Residence and Housing. Please note that students are responsible for arranging their own attendant services.

Residence and Housing does not provide assistance with meals. Students with disabilities who require assistance may wish to sign up for the meal plan, if they feel that is a better option.

For students who self-identify as having a disability, Residence will work with other SFU departments, such as the Health and Counselling Centre or the Centre for Accessible Learning, to recommend appropriate resources. However, it is the responsibility of the student to communicate the need for such resources to Residence staff (contact).
