Revitalizing endangered aboriginal language

Halq’eméylem is the disappearing language of the Stó: lö people who live along B.C.’s Fraser River. Now spoken by only a handful of elders, it may soon enjoy a renascence thanks to an unusual partnership between SFU and the Stó: lö nation.

Education professors Ethel Gardner and Carolyn Kenny conceived a unique training program that certifies students to teach the aboriginal language and culture in schools.
