As a Healthy Public Policy, Community Coordinator with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

• Report to the Manager of Healthy Public Policy and work closely with HPP Regional Leads and other staff to support the goals and objectives of Medical Health Officers and the Executive Director of Population Health
• Be responsible for the coordination and implementation of policies at the local level aimed at improving the determinants of health in communities.
• Engage with and collaborate work with key contacts in local governments, school districts, and regional districts in their assigned communities. This includes both government staff and elected officials as well as contacts in the not-for-profit sector, community leadership (advocates, activists, association leaders etc.) and others engaged in policy discourse, development, and advocacy at the local level. 
• Be responsible for maintaining expertise in assigned thematic areas of core concern to public health including familiarity with epidemiological data, intervention evidence and policy opportunities.
• Be expected to have or develop intimate knowledge of challenges and opportunities facing particular neighbourhoods, sectors, and sub-population groups in the communities they are assigned to eg., low-income neighbourhoods, seniors, immigrants and refugees, single parents, urban Indigenous communities, street involved youth etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

• Master’s Degree in Public Policy, Public Health, Public Administration, Law, Planning, Urban Health or another relevant field with three (3) to five (5) year's recent, related experience that includes development and implementation of projects (including policy research development, advocacy initiative and strategic planning and deployment projects) and facilitating consultation processes with a wide range of stakeholder groups.
• Current registration with relevant professional College/Association, if applicable.
• Excellent communication skills to function within a complex interdisciplinary environment including ability to communicate with senior members of government including federal, provincial and municipal.
• Computer literacy with word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, project management and database applications.

Knowledge & Abilities

• Demonstrates strong knowledge, skills and experience in public policy development, applied strategic research methodologies, and affecting social change and organizational change.
• Demonstrates broad knowledge of population health, social, environmental, and behavioural determinants of health.
• Demonstrates applied knowledge of social, economic, political and health trends and statistics.
• Demonstrates knowledge of urban and/or rural planning and policymaking processes, urban politics, advocacy and activism.
• Maintains the most current and up-to-date knowledge of policies, programs, funding streams, capacity building opportunities, community and industry interventions, events, campaigns and other relevant considerations as related to population health.
• Experience in leading and coordinating working groups and steering and advisory committees, which may include senior internal and external stakeholders, senior personnel from other departments, dedicated project team staff and consultants, in the development, implementation and monitoring of strategic initiatives.
• Able to lead local initiatives, manage conflict, and to exercise a high degree of judgment and independence toward delivery of outcomes.
• Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge, skills and experience in project management principles and methodologies, including the ability to set and adapt to changing priorities in a complex, fast paced work environment, and ability to coach other team members on these skills.
• Demonstrates thorough understanding, and experience engaging, available resources for projects and relevant stakeholder groups.
• Utilizes initiative, vision, independent thinking and creative problem-solving abilities to implement project plans and realize project completion.
• Able to provide strong feedback and detailed analysis on project processes, and make recommendations as required.
• Utilizes effective facilitation, persuasion and negotiation abilities to achieve consensus, resolve conflict and achieve desired outcomes.
• Experience conducting and drafting rapid policy reviews, memos, and other internal communication materials as requested.
• Works effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines, balance work priorities, and resolve problems to achieve deliverables and outcomes in a timely manner.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
