Gabrielle Jones
EASC Undergraduate Student
Graduated 2019 - B.Sc. (with Distinction)
Major: Earth Sciences, Geology Stream
What got you interested in Earth Sciences?
I was initially attracted to Earth Sciences because of my love for the outdoors and science. I love the multidisciplinary aspect of Earth Sciences, as it links chemistry, physics, biology, and it also allows you to think creatively!
Why did you choose SFU EASC?
I chose SFU EASC because it is a tight-knit group, and the courses give many opportunities to receive hands on experience and get into the field. Some of my favourite memories were created on field trips, especially driving across BC in EASC 408, exploring eastern Washington in EASC 403, and second year field school in the Okanagan (EASC 306).
What have you been doing since graduating from SFU EASC?
I am currently attending graduate school at University of Alberta, where I am working towards my MSc in conjunction with the BC Geological Survey. Once I receive my MSc, I hope to carve a career path which allows for a balance of field work, such as at a government survey or in the mineral exploration industry.
