John Clague

Areas of interest

Dr. Clague's interests include quaternary stratigraphy and history of western Canada,paleoseismology of the Cascadia subduction zone, late Quaternary crustal deformation and sea-level change/slope stability. Also, recent environmental change, catastrophic outburst floods from glacier- and moraine-dammed lakes. Dr. Clague's work is interdisciplinary in scope and applied in nature - he collaborates with geologists, biologists, physicists, and physical geographers. His students acquire expertise in stratigraphy, sedimentology, geomorphology, paleoecology, engineering geology, and other fields. Dr. Clague is currently working on a variety of research problems with faculty at SFU, UBC, Carleton University, and with research scientists at the Geological Survey of Canada and the British Columbia Geological Survey. His other main professional interest is increasing public awareness of science.
