Faculty Reading Circle – Wayi Wah! Indigenous Pedagogies By Jo Chrona
Summary
Join faculty and colleagues in teaching roles as we launch a new reading circle for the fall term. We’ll meet weekly online for reflection, question and discussion in response to the book: Wayi Wah! Indigenous Pedagogies -An Act for Reconciliation and Anti-Racist Education by Jo Chrona. This group is suitable for those beginning their journey in decolonial teaching as well as those looking to continue on this path with a shared community.
This reading circle can be customized for your faculty or your department. Please reach out to find out more.
Description
About the Book:
“This powerful and engaging resource is for non-Indigenous educators who want to learn more, are new to these conversations, or want to deepen their learning.” Portage and Main Press
“With a compassionate and plain-spoken voice, the author walks us through chapters on the role of educators in reconciliation and decolonization, Indigenous education and Indigenous-informed pedagogy, understanding systemic racism, and more. Every chapter includes questions for reflections, ways to take action, and resources for further learning and classroom use.” Education Canada Magazine
About the Reading Circle
Join fellow instructors from across SFU to read and discuss Jo Chrona’s book Wayi Wah! Indigenous Pedagogies An Act for Reconciliation and Anti-Racist Education. Through this group we hope to build support for a community of learning, moving towards and strengthening decolonial teaching practices, both beginning and underway in courses and classrooms in diverse disciplines.
We’ll read a small section of the text each week. Learning will be supported by Canvas with opportunities for asynchronous discussion and resource sharing
