Book Club: Inclusive Teaching
Summary
Read “Inclusive Teaching Strategies for Promoting Equity in College Classrooms” and discuss evidence-based strategies to impact learning.
This book club can be customized for your faculty or your department. Please reach out to find out more.
Description
Join us for a lively conversation about implementing evidence-based classroom practices to positively impact diverse student learning. We’ll meet weekly to tackle ways to teach today’s students, drawing on Kelly Hogan and Viji Sathy’s 2022 book “Inclusive Teaching Strategies for Promoting Equity in College Classrooms”. Reading 1-2 chapters per week the book and discussion will offer active learning ideas, tips and strategies responsive to the needs and context of the group. A Canvas support shell will allow for additional asynchronous idea sharing and resource support. Additional resources and follow-up will be available from the Inclusive Teaching Team at CEE.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session participants will be able to:
- Identify appropriate active and inclusive teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners in disciplinary classes
- Discuss the importance and impact of responsive and inclusive teaching strategies for diverse learners at SFU
- Consider active reflection and strategies to capture, measure and document change and impact in incremental changes to instructional approaches.
What to Expect
Expect a lively inter-disciplinary conversation about implementing evidence-based classroom practices to positively impact diverse student learning. Additional resources and follow-up support will be available from the Inclusive Teaching Team at CEE.
