Melodic Ink: Co-creating Melodies on Drawing
Interactive art
By: Jiawei Shi, Danni Chen, Carolyn Fan, Anne Jiao, Vera Ni
Course: IAT 222 Interactive Arts
Description: Melodic Ink is an interactive installation that weaves traditional Chinese culture and music into a collaborative, unifying experience. Participants shake a stick from a shaker, each colour relating to a hint card that guides the participant to a Chinese instrument from the Instrument Bank. Holding the correct instrument to the board breathes life into the installation. By working with others, each additional correct instrument held to the board enriches the buildable melody. Chinese traditions inspire this piece, such as communicating with the heavens using a shaker and guessing lantern riddles during the Chinese New Year. Through engaging in Chinese culture, we hope this piece brings people closer together.
