Alessandra Bordini
Alessandra Bordini is a researcher at the Canadian Institute for Studies in Publishing and a PhD student in Interdisciplinary Studies at Simon Fraser University.
Her primary research areas are the history of the book, the history of publishing, and the digital humanities. She is particularly interested in data collection and curation for digital special collections, and the history of book production, distribution, and reception in Early Modern Europe, with a focus on the incunabula and early sixteenth-century editions of Renaissance Venice’s Aldine Press (1494–1598).
Since 2015, Alessandra has served as the project manager for the Aldus@SFU digital initiative, working in collaboration with Simon Fraser University Library to make SFU’s Wosk–McDonald Aldine Collection not only more widely accessible, but also more relevant and of greater value to new and broader audiences. Her current work involves creating the descriptive metadata for the SFU Aldines, compiling a rich online bibliography of Aldine-related secondary sources, and prototyping a new and improved web resource to showcase and contextualize the digital collection.
Alessandra holds a Master of Publishing (MPub) from SFU and a Master of Arts (MA) in Translation from the University of Siena. A native of Sardinia, she has worked as an in-house editor for a number of book publishers in Naples and Milan. She is also a poetry translator, and has translated into Italian works by award-winning Canadian poets Margaret Avison and Maureen Scott Harris.
