SFU’s Master of Publishing (MPub) program, located in Vancouver, Canada, is a student-centred community that will prepare you with the tools you need to collaborate, innovate, and make a difference within the fast-changing world of digital & print publishing.
Taught by publishing practitioners and research faculty, along with masterclasses from industry leaders, the program offers a blend of seminar and hands-on project courses that provide tomorrow’s industry leaders with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for a successful career.
Located within SFU’s Faculty of Communication, Art, and Technology, the Master of Publishing (MPub) program is the only program in Canada to offer a postgraduate degree in publishing, and is the country’s premier training ground for publishing professionals. With flexible full-time and part-time options, the MPub can help you kickstart a career in publishing, update your skills, or deepen your knowledge. Choose from our three program streams:
Trade Publishing: Prepare yourself for a career in print and digital publishing, with courses in editorial practice and theory, production management, book design, marketing, and more. Put your skills into action with our immersive book publishing simulation course and conclude your degree with a professional placement in the publishing industry.
Scholarly Communication: Take a deep dive into the processes behind scholarly communication, from peer review and editorial strategies to the tools and services that create the scholarly record. Get hands-on experience working with experts in open access publishing and making research public.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Get the skills and mentorship you need to start your own publishing enterprise. Take courses in project management, hands-on digital technology workshops, and an immersive media start-up simulation. Finish your Masters degree with your own start-up already underway!
Students who graduate from the program have a master’s degree from a major North American university. They also have a solid grounding in the informing principles as well as the art and business of publishing; they are connected with working professionals who will become their colleagues; and they have invaluable practical skills to carry into a career in any print or online publishing activity—trade, scholarly or innovative—with an existing operation, or in their own enterprise.
