Know your benefits

Internal PDFs who are employees of the University qualify for extended health benefits. In addition to statutory benefits, extended health benefits will be funded by the faculty supervisor’s funding source.

Note: External PDFs who are not employees of the University can NOW opt-in for self-paid extended health benefits. Please contact postdoc2@sfu.ca for more information on opt-in options.  

Payroll & forms

As an employee of the University, you may need to request information about your employment or have changes made to your personal information. The list below links to some of the more frequently visited sites:

Payroll

Under Forms and Resources, select “Payroll” to find the following frequently used forms:

  • Change of personal and banking information
  • Payroll Schedule
  • T4/T4A/Paystubs: Information on how to retrieve documents electronically
  • Request for Information such as Income Verification and Record of Employment
  • Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) Tax forms

myInfo

myINFO is Simon Fraser University's employee self-service system for faculty, staff and student employees. There, you can access pay advice information and some other employment information such as statements, vacation balances and T4/T4A statements. myInfo can be accessed here.

Housing

There are limited SFU Family Housing units available for internal postdoctoral fellows and their families on the Burnaby campus.

If you are interested, please complete this request form to be waitlisted and we will be in touch with you once a unit becomes available. Please email postdoc@sfu.ca if you need more information.  

The SFU Residence and Housing also provide information for finding off-campus housing as well as information for your rights as a tenant and how to avoid a rental scam.

Teaching activities

Per Policy R50.03 5.2, both internal and external Postdoctoral Fellows (PDFs) may engage in teaching activities during their postdoctoral appointment at SFU.

Teaching activities may include:

  • Undergruate & graduate lecturing
  • Laboratory instrution
  • Tutorials
  • Supervision of undergraduate projects and assisting with supervision (other than Senior Supervision) of graduate students.

PDF seeking to teach a course must first discuss and obtain approval from their supervisor and follow department/school teaching appointment policies. 

PDFs should only be appointed as Limited Term Lecturers (LTLs). Units seeking guidance to postdoctoral fellow teaching appointments should follow the procedure outlined in the PDF teaching guideline document.
