" I have long admired SFU’s research in Earth Sciences. More particularly the research work related to landslides by Dr. Sergio Sepulveda (my SFU supervisor) and Dr. Doug Stead (Professor Emeritus) is the main reason why I choose SFU to expand my expertise "
Postdoctoral Fellow Profile: Jaspreet Singh
Department of Earth Sciences Postdoctoral Fellow in the Faculty of Science
I grew up in Punjab region of India. Punjab the land of five rivers is part of Indo-Gangetic plains formed by sediments deposited from Himalayan rivers. Due to close proximity of the Himalayas, I was always passionate and curious about the beauty and origin of mighty Himalayas. I earned my BSc and MSc in Geology from Panjab University, Chandigarh and later a Ph.D. in Engineering Geology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. I was All India Rank 1 in National Eligibility Test (NET) in Earth Sciences for eligibility of lectureship and PhD fellowship conducted by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, GoI. Currently, I work as Postdoc fellow at Department of Earth Sciences, SFU. My research work will be on understanding complex rock slopes or landslides using combined 2D and 3D computationally based modelling and remote sensing (LiDAR, Photogrammetry) for geohazard assessment in BC, Canada.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?
I have long admired SFU’s research in Earth Sciences. More particularly the research work related to landslides by Dr. Sergio Sepulveda (my SFU supervisor) and Dr. Doug Stead (Professor Emeritus) is the main reason why I choose SFU to expand my expertise.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?
My research is focused on landslides for understanding their failure mechanics and monitoring to overcome future catastrophic disaster.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?
I am really enjoying working with the research facilities offered here at SFU.
