"His final project was exemplary primarily because it combined expert analysis from three different domains: one being issues related to constitutional law and sovereignty of First Nations, one being the business of delivery of medical services in Canada and the third being the development of a business strategy in light of the changing legal landscape with regard to privatized medical services...His contribution was both timely and impactful to our First Nations communities."
Dr. Carman Neustaedter
"Ufuk is a great asset in the lab. He thinks deeply about the research challenges and comes up with great solutions all while making the lab a fun social hub to work in. I feel privileged to have him as a post doc in my lab."
Dr. Wolfgang Stuerzlinger
Postdoc Profile: Anil Ufuk Batmaz
Postdoctoral Fellow in the Faculty of Communication, Art & Technology
I am an electrical and electronics engineerings with a minor degree in computer engineering. I have a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the University of Strasbourg. I am currently working on human-computer interaction and virtual and augmented reality.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?
To work with my current supervisor, Wolfgang Stuerzlinger. He is a world-wide known researcher in 3D User Interfaces, he is an expert on Human-Computer Interaction and he has deep knowledge of Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR).
TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESEARCH AND/OR PROGRAM.
I am trying to understand how virtual environments affect our brain or body so that I can help people to use these virtual environment technologies as a part of their daily life.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?
I like working with people coming from different academic backgrounds, such as cognitive psychology or brain-computer interaction. SFU is a wonderful place where I can quickly contact and start working with people from different backgrounds.
