Potential Wind Generation
Sites in the Ashcroft Area

The blackouts covering the east coast of North America in the summer of 2003 are an indication of westernturbine 2 societies' seemingly endless need to consume electricity.  As populations and our dependence on technology continue to grow so will the need to produce the required electricity.  As a result,  BC Hydro has made a commitment to meet 10% of new demand, through 2010, with new green sources.  In order to support this initiative, they have undertaken research projects to see if other sources are viable in the province.  They are looking into Wind Power, Wave Power, and micro hydro projects.

This project focuses on the the possibilities of wind generated energy in BC.  In researching for suitable locations, BC Hydro has chosen  several sites across the province at which to measure wind speeds to see if they are suitable for generation sites.  After checking some of the data that has been collected, the town of Ashcroft was chosen as having suitable wind speeds to be chosen as a potential  location for wind generation.
