A Forensic Analysis of Groundwater Depletion in British Columbia, Canada

My research project focuses on a forensic analysis of groundwater depletion in BC, aiming to understand the unique factors contributing to declining groundwater levels in some of the aquifers in the province. Additionally, I will investigate whether this depletion has led to a reduction in stream baseflow and identify aquifers more susceptible to depletion. The research will examine the relationships between over-abstraction, climate change, and aquifer depletion, with an aim to identify critical points, such as when depletion began and the associated tipping points. By examining specific instances of aquifer stress, my study seeks to enhance the understanding of groundwater depletion in BC, and to shed light on the underlying factors that are triggering the decline in groundwater levels.
