Amal Ghazal

DIRECTOR, CENTER FOR COMPARATIVE MUSLIM STUDIES, SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY, VANCOUVER

Amal Ghazal earned her BA in History from the American University of Beirut and her MA and PhD (2005) from the University of Alberta. She was a post-doc fellow at the University of Toronto before joining the History Department at Dalhousie University in 2006. She joined the History Department at Simon Fraser University in 2017 and was appointed as the Director of the Center for Comparative Muslim Studies (CCMS). She led CCMS into a new phase of community engagement, reaching out to various groups and organizations in Vancouver, and taking new initiatives in strengthening Muslim-Indigenous relationships. She is currently on leave, serving as the Dean for the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies. She specializes in modern Arab intellectual history.
