Vancouver Climate Day

On Friday, September 13th, Vancouver Climate Day at the SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue brought together a wide cross-section of students, researchers, and practitioners working on climate issues across Vancouver. 194 participants attended two plenary sessions and 15 workshops, hosted by five different climate-related programs at the Centre, along with senior faculty members from SFU, UBC, BCIT and Emily Carr University, as well as the Pembina Institute, Metro Vancouver and Hub Cycling.

The plenary speakers included SFU's Vice-President for Research and Innovation, Port of Vancouver, Vancouver Airport Authority, the Vancouver Mayor's Council, the Canadian Institute for Climate Solutions, the Zero Emissions Innovation Centre, New Economy Canada and CityHive. The issues addressed ranged from the economics of deep energy retrofits, to managing the health impacts of wildfires to international indigenous perspectives on climate change. It was a welcome return to in-person climate programming made accessible to the public at the Wosk Centre.
