SFU Alumni Council: Nomination

The Alumni Council represents Simon Fraser University’s Alumni Association, comprising all graduates of SFU's Senate-approved programs. The Council fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment, respecting diverse passions and contributions. It ensures alumni influence SFU’s priorities and future direction.

Scope of the Alumni Council:

  • Provides strategic advice to the University.
  • Represents the Alumni Association on University committees.
  • Nominates members to the Board of Governors and the University Chancellor.
  • Celebrates alumni achievements.
  • Acts as a community representative for the University.

Membership:

  • Members are self-nominated and will be evaluated based on a skills and attributes matrix.
  • Comprises 6-12 Alumni Association members and 2 SFU positions, totaling up to 14 members.
  • Members serve for 2-year terms, with possible reappointment for up to an additional 3-year term, not exceeding 6 consecutive years.

Meetings:

  • Held three times a year (or more if needed) in Greater Vancouver.
  • May coincide with special events.
  • Videoconference options are available.

Nomination:

  • SFU alumni are invited to self-nominate, completing the nomination form and skills and attributes matrix takes approximately 40-60 minutes to complete.
  • Applications are confidential.
