Design Philosophy

1
Hierarchy of Design

My Philosophy intertwines with the Hierarchy of Design or Pyramid of Design, a concept that ensures all products designed will fulfill the needs and wants of the user.

2
Functionality

Functionality is at the base of the pyramid because it is the concept that holds the design together. Even when designers create unique products that are not functional in order to spark interest, the concept of functionality is still used. This concept also underlines the basic needs of products compared to that of the competition. Not satisfying the requirements of a product will lead to poor sales and adoption.

3
Reliability

Reliability ensures that the designed product will work consistently, accurately and as intended. A product that cannot be relied on will not satisfy the users leading to poor sales and adoption.

4
Usability

Usability blends two important factors into one. First the design must be usable meaning that the user can understand it and navigate the design. A design that cannot be used, simply will not be used. The second factor is the user experience. User experience can be described as how the users feel while interacting with design. My designs focus on user psychology to ensure that the overall experience is enjoyable.

5
Proficiency

This concept considers subjects like learnability, speed and costs. The easier a design is learnt, the more people will use the design. Learnability can be a double edged sword depending on the medium. As an application design that helps a user complete their taxes would benefit from being easy to master, a video game design with the same learnability curve may cause the users to lose interest.

6
Creativity

Creativity is what makes a design stand out from the rest. Creating designs that are unique and aesthetically pleasing will attract more users versus clones of designs already made.
