All information listed in the Documents to Submit sections below must be completed and submitted before your application will be processed by Financial Aid and Awards.
SFU Federal Direct Loan Application
Important information for all Federal Direct Loan applicants
The SFU Federal School Code is G08444.
The Early Application Deadline for 2023-2024 is May 24, 2024.
SFU will accept your application by SCAN/EMAIL to usloans@sfu.ca as long as your application has been signed by hand and not digitally.
Within 4-8 weeks of all the required application information being completed/submitted (without any missing information), Financial Aid and Awards will complete your Cost of Attendance and initial loan assessment.
You will be notified of the results in detail via email to your SFU email account (default). If you have not yet set up an SFU email account, we will use your alternate email. In addition to your Cost of Attendance (COA), a “Statement of Borrower Loan Confirmation” will be attached to the email, which you must complete and return to our office in order to tell us how much you want to borrow.
Undergraduate: Documents to submit
Required from all undergraduate students each academic year:
- Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) Required each academic year
- Master Promissory Note (MPN) Required each academic year
- Annual Student Loan Acknowledgement (ASLA) Optional
- 2024-2025 Undergraduate U.S. Federal Direct Loan Application for academic year Sept. 2024 - Aug. 2025
Additional requirements from undergraduate students (if applicable)
- Entrance Counselling Required by 1st time borrowers only
Additional requirements from parents requesting PLUS funding (if applicable)
- Parent PLUS Application Required each academic year
- Parent PLUS Master Promissory Note (MPN) Required each academic year
- Annual Student Loan Acknowledgement (ASLA) Optional
Graduate: Documents to submit
Required from all graduate students each academic year:
