Join the lab storage cleanup contest

We invite all students, faculty, and staff who are using SFU laboratory workspaces to participate in this contest. There will be a total of up to 130 gift cards worth $25 from select establishments to be given away.

From June 12 to August 16, 2024, clean up and organize your lab storage workspace and update your online inventories to help keep your workstations tidier, safer, and ready for your next lab inspection. 

To participate, follow the mechanics below:  

  1. Download and use this checklist to clean up your workspace. Fill out one checklist for each room (or lab area if in a shared lab). Each submitted checklist will gain one entry to the prize draw.
  2. Once completed, email your checklist back to labsafe@sfu.ca. Only checklists received on or before 11:59 P.M., August 16, will be entered into the draw.
  3. A total of 130 gift cards (worth $25 each) from the following establishments will be given away: 
    • 50 gift cards from Renaissance Cafe
    • 50 gift cards from Uncle Faith's Pizza
    • 30 gift cards from Steve's Poke  
  4. Winners will be selected via a random draw and will be contacted on August 22, 2024 via email with instructions on how to claim their prize.

Note:

  • Winners can select the gift card of their choice on a first come, first serve basis until supplies last.
  • If you submitted a checklist as a group/ team, only those names included in the form will each receive a gift card prize. 
  • The total number of gift cards from each establishment may change, depending on physical gift card supply. Gift cards from other local establishments may be used as substitutes. 

Reminders:  

  • When cleaning up your lab workspace, dispose of any chemicals and other meterials that are expired, in poor condition, or no longer needed.
  • Reorganize lab stoarge spaces, including items in cabinets, fridges, freezers,, etc. Ensure chemicals are stored following safe storage best practices. 
  • It is mandatory to maintain your your lab's group online hazard inventory. Reconcile you online hazard inventory for:
    • Regulatory compliance.
    • Administrative tracking of specific substances (e.g., chemical weapons, precursors). 
    • For the system to generate your own lab door signage. 
  • If your lab group maintains its own database, contact labsafe@sfu.ca for information on automating data transfer to the online SFU hazard inventory.
