New student residences
SFU has launched a $38.5-million project to construct new residences that will accommodate an additional 734 students at the Burnaby campus. The first two towers are now under construction and will receive 500 students in September, 2004. A third tower will be completed in January, 2005.
The new residences and dining hall are being constructed to “green building” standards, and include state-of-the-art energy conservation features. In addition, every room will be wired for high-speed Internet access. Eventually, SFU expects to be able to accommodate 15 per cent of its full-time student population in on-site housing.
