Preparing for the SFU holiday closure

Exams, final projects and meetings are starting to wrap up so here are the latest winter break and safety reminders before leaving campus for the holidays.

Lock up and secure your space

Don't forget to lock your doors, close your curtains and secure electronics and keys out of sight. For a full list of ways to secure your space, visit our Theft Prevention safety guide.

Getting across campus

During the holiday break, there may be changes to access points across campus, depending on closures and campus conditions. See the Campus Access Route map for the latest pedestrian recommendations.

Heating and ventilation reminders

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, thermostats will be lowered in most buildings. Occupying your area over the break? Email Facilities Services by December 17 at fmserv@sfu.ca. Include dates, times, building name, room number and a phone number.

Protect yourself from phishing scams

The holiday season is prime time for online phishing scams. IT Services encourages you to review online safety tips for avoiding phishing emails.

Working and learning during the winter break

Campus Public Safety (CPS) is available 24/7, even during the winter break. The Lone Worker Program (LWP) and Safe Walk program are also available to support you.

Though campus will be quieter during the closure, there are many safety resources in place  to keep you feeling supported.

Campus access

SFU Burnaby campus

  • General campus closures and reduced services December 26, 2022 - January 2, 2023
  • Campus Public Safety access map and routes

SFU Surrey campus

  • The Surrey campus will be closed from December 26, 2022 to January 2, 2023 inclusive. 
  • All offices will re-open on January 3, 2023.
  • During this time, you will be required to show SFU ID for entrance.

SFU Vancouver campus

  • The Vancouver campus will be closed December 26, 2022 to January 2, 2023 inclusive. 
  • During this time all building entrances will be locked, fob access as follows:
    • HC & GCA - 24/7 fob access. 
    • SB - Fob access 07:30-23:00 hrs, all days.  
    • C4D - will be locked with access via special request to HC Security.
