Description: We propose a systematic investigation of the effectiveness of a tried-and-true element of the SFU course catalogue and the School of Resource and Environmental Management curriculum. We will develop, implement, and analyze a post-pre survey (Kanevsky 2015) to assess the types and amounts of learning enabled through the Fall 2015 offering of REM 601.

Questions addressed:

• Did students perceive the 2015 course goals and learning outcomes for REM 601 to be relevant and useful?
• Did 2015 REM 601 students think the course achieved its goals?
• Did 2015 REM 601 students think they achieved the course learning outcomes?
• What lessons can be learned from the initial presentation of REM 601 that offer direction for reforming course structure, content, instruction, REM School Department curriculum, or other areas?

Knowledge sharing:  Our initial ideas are to disseminate project design and findings to REM School colleagues and other interested parties through informal discussions in departmental and faculty meetings, as well as upcoming Faculty of the Environment gatherings.
