Introducing Carman Fung
The Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies is pleased to welcome Carman Fung to our department as a lecturer.
Dr. Fung joins us from the University of Melbourne, where she taught and also earned her PhD in Cultural Studies. Previously, Dr. Fung taught at the Education University of Hong Kong. She has also worked on projects aimed at using digital pedagogy – or online teaching and learning tools – to improve inclusion and facilitate student-led engagement.
As an educator and scholar, Dr. Fung is interested in how our personal gender and sexual identities are shaped by representations we see in media, as well as ideas and sexual terminologies. Her research has been nominated for the Chancellor’s Prize at the University of Melbourne and shortlisted for the AWGSA PhD Award by the Australian Women’s and Gender Studies Association.
Dr. Fung is currently teaching GSWS 101: Gender Talk and GSWS 102: Feminist Action. In the spring 2023 semester, SFU students have the opportunity to enroll in two courses with Dr. Fung: GSWS 102: Feminist Action, and GSWS 319: Queer Fandoms.
