ANALYSIS

Final Suitability Image for PCS Antenna Site Selection, Burnaby, B.C.

In this section the final image is analyzed, and final suitable PCS antenna site locations are chosen.

Choosing the final candidate locations for antenna placement is difficult.

Should final candidates include all pixels with a suitablitiy value greater than 200? 215?

Several thresholds were examined.  With a threshold of 170 (in suitability value), it was found that too many pixels were chosen.

Candidates Selected Using [Suitability > 170] Threshold.

At this threshold, the process of selection would still require manual work, selecting between over 15 or 20 candidates per coverage hole. With a threshold of 215, it was found that some coverage holes had no candidates.

Candidates Selected Using [Suitability > 200] Threshold.

The final threshold chosen was a 180.

Final Candidate Selection [Suitability > 180]

Another factor is candidate size.  For placing antennae, it was decided that the presence of only 1 pixel above the threshold would qualify as a suitable candidate.  It is not nessasary to force candidates to be greater than say 100 square meters, because of the small footprint that PCS antenna towers have.  30 square meters is more than enough to accomidate a tower.
