Introduction

In the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD), we are fortunate to have a temperate climate, fertile soil, and an abundance of rain. Together, these factors combine to promote a wide range of agricultural activity in our area. This map (fig.1) displays the many local farms which operate within the region. It may seem that we are a region with an ample supply of food, but how secure are we? This project seeks to define food security in the GVRD and to assess the impact adoption of an urban agriculture program could have on our level of security.
