2020 Dean’s Award of Excellence in Teaching and Research

The Faculty of Environment Dean’s Awards of Excellence in Research and Teaching highlight the outstanding accomplishments of faculty members in both research and teaching. Recipients are selected based on nominations by faculty, administrators, students or staff.

Excellence in Teaching Awardees:

David Maxwell

David Maxwell is a faculty member in the Department of Archaeology, with his primary field of interest being faunal analysis of vertebrates. David has studied tens of thousands of bones from various sites in North America during his research. David is a familiar face to students, teaching 16 courses and acting as CODE coordinator for 10 others, since 2018. 

Scott Harrison

Scott Harrison is a senior lecturer in the School of Resource & Environmental Management. Scott is interested in applying the concepts of ecological resilience and Adaptive Management to improve the sustainable use of natural resources. Scott has taught almost 500 students over 13 REM courses since 2018, developing 2 new courses along the way. 

Excellence in Research Awardees:

Hugo Cardoso

Hugo Cardoso is a physical anthropologist and faculty member in the Department of Archaeology. Hugo’s research interests include human skeletal biology and bioarchaeology, particularly with the juvenile skeleton. Hugo has a notable record of research efforts which has earned him being elected to the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars.

Jeremy Venditti

Jeremy Venditti is the Director of the School of Environmental Science, a professor in the Department of Geography, and leads the River Dynamics Laboratory at SFU. Jeremy has a particular interest in natural hazards associated with flooding and the impacts of flooding in a changing climate. Jeremy has made tremendous contributions with his research, having 18 articles published since 2018.
