Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at SFU: October in Review
We continue our work towards an SFU where all feel welcome, safe, accepted and appreciated. Here is a snapshot of the work underway this month.
SFU Accessibility Plan
SFU’s inaugural Accessibility Plan was launched this month! Aligned with the Equity Compass and informed by the perspectives and needs of SFU students, faculty and staff with disabilities, the Accessibility Plan describes the changes needed to transition towards a more accessible university. Implementing and sustaining meaningful accessibility improvements is a long-term journey. This initial plan articulates the areas that require immediate attention, prioritizing actions with urgency, impact and feasibility in mind. The plan ensures compliance with the Accessible British Columbia Act and leaves space to respond to the incoming provincial standards, which are expected to be released within the next 12 months.
See the Accessibility at SFU webpage to read the plan and stay updated on accessibility initiatives.
Improving access to SFU safety resources
In addition to the various offices that support our community, the university has now released a new app to support a safe and secure environment for students, faculty and staff. SFU Safe is the university’s new mobile safety resource providing convenient ways to access safety and security services in one application. With vital safety information, support and services at your fingertips, you can stay informed, be prepared and ready to handle any emergency while at work and on campus.
