Rylan Simpson elected as Fellow of the Academy of Experimental Criminology

Our warmest congratulations to assistant professor Rylan Simpson for being recently elected as Fellow of the Academy of Experimental Criminology (AEC).

The AEC promotes and improves the use and development of experimental methods in the advancement of criminological theory and evidence-based crime policy. It recognizes criminologists who have successfully led randomized, controlled, field experiments in criminology.

Using experimental methods, Simpson conducts extensive research on various subjects, such as policing, perceptions of police, police organizations, and theories of crime. His work has been published in several journals including Criminology & Public Policy, PLoS ONE, Journal of Experimental Criminology, Crime Science, Justice Evaluation Journal, and Women & Criminal Justice. In addition to his research accomplishments, Simpson also serves as Vice Chair of the American Society of Criminology’s Division of Experimental Criminology and as a Member of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police’s Research Advisory Committee.

Simpson's work has been praised by both academic and professional communities. He has supplemented his research with more than 1,400 hours of police ride-alongs across Canada, Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom, which has provided him with valuable practical insights that he integrates into his research and teaching.

Simpson will be officially inducted as an AEC Fellow during this year’s ASC meeting in Philadelphia, which is scheduled to take place in November.
