Research Assistant - Indigenizing Health Research Ethics Project

We are seeking a highly motivated part-time (20 hours/week) Research Assistant to join our transformative project and research team. The Research Assistant will work collaboratively with the Centre staff (i.e., Director, Senior Research Manager, Project Manager, and Indigenous Trainees), BC Network Environment for Indigenous Health Research (BC NEIHR), FNHA, Principal Investigators, Elder Advisors, Indigenous Research Trainees, Co-Applicants, Collaborators, and SFU interdisciplinary teams to lead and facilitate research activities associated with this project.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Indigenizing Health Research Ethics in BC with Indigenous Communities, Collectives and Organizations: Co-Create Wise Practices & Distinctions-Based Ethical Protocols in Indigenous Health Research project is a 3-year Canadian Institutes of Health Research funded project led by Dr. Krista Stelkia in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. The Indigenizing Health Research Ethics project goal is to improve and advance Indigenous health research ethics practices and protocols in BC to be more culturally safe and grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems and distinctions-based guidelines. An innovative and Indigenous-led approach to achieving the overarching research goal and aims is grounded in a collaborative network of research ethics partners (Indigenous communities, collectives, organizations [ICCOs], research ethics boards [REBs], and Indigenous health researchers [IHRs]) that centers Indigenous ways of knowing in Indigenizing health research ethics in BC.

APPLICATION DETAILS

  • Type: Part-time (20 hours per week; within the Centre operating hours Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:30pm) position for a one-year contract, with the possibility of extension.
  • Salary: $32.00 per hour (Extended health and dental benefits are not included)
  • Job Location: Remote work. Candidate must be based in BC, as there will be occasional in-person research gatherings and team meetings in Vancouver, BC and at our Centre office at SFU Burnaby Campus.
  • The successful candidate must be able to start by January 20th, 2025, or earlier.

Visiting Indigenous Scholar Program

The objective of the Visiting Indigenous Scholar Program through the Postdoctoral Fellowship with the Centre for Collaborative Action on Indigenous Health Governance is to provide unique opportunities to Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit and globally) postdoctoral applicants who wish to conduct Indigenous health research within British Columbia. 

Recipients of these fellowships demonstrate achievement in graduate studies, a research-intensive career pathway, as well as partnership potential within BC Indigenous communities, collectives, and organizations.
