Curriculum upgrade
SFU announced new entrance and graduation requirements to enrich students’ academic experience and better prepare them for a workplace that increasingly emphasizes knowledge-based skills.
The changes, which take effect in 2006, are designed to help students improve their writing and communications skills and expand their quantitative reasoning and analytical abilities. Students will also have greater exposure to ideas and disciplines outside their chosen majors. The changes also include improved support for faculty to renew their courses and approaches to teaching.
The curriculum reform will greatly enhance the value of SFU’s undergraduate degrees, and reflects the recommendations of a university task force that evaluated the current undergraduate curriculum, surveyed exemplary universities and consulted widely with students, faculty, staff and educational experts.
