Dr. Hilgendorf and Bouchra Kachoub present at IAWE 2019 in Ireland
Associate Professor Dr. Suzanne K. Hilgendorf and PhD student Bouchra Kachoub both presented at the 24th Conference of the International Association for World Englishes (IAWE 2019) which was held at the University of Limerick in Ireland, June 20—22, 2019.
The International Association for World Englishes is committed to the study of the forms and functions of varieties of Englishes in diverse cultural and sociolinguistic contexts. The association focuses on global issues relating to three major aspects of world Englishes: language, literature, and pedagogy.
The theme for this year's conference was “World Englishes: Peripheries and Centres” which seeked to explore the tensions and dynamics of centrality and peripherality in world Englishes.
Dr. Hilgendorf, a former President of IAWE (2013-14), presented her paper entitled “Peripheries and Centers, or Plurality with Inclusivity?”
Kachoub’s presentation, on “English Use in Moroccan Media”, shared findings from her on-going research for her doctoral dissertation, which she expects to defend in the coming year.
