SFU Vancouver Joins the Celebration at the 40th Vancouver Sun Run
The Vancouver Sun Run is a 10km road race held annually on the third Sunday in April since 1985. It is one of the largest road races in North America, and this year marked its 40th anniversary.
With over 45,000 participants signing up for this year's race, the SFU community came together as team SFU Vancouver to proudly represent Simon Fraser University’s Vancouver campus for the second consecutive year!
Before starting the road race, members of the SFU Vancouver Sun Run team gathered at Harbour Centre for a group photo, full of anticipation for the race ahead.
The route kicks off from Burrard and Georgia, heading towards Denman Street. Participants get to enjoy scenic views of the West End as they make their way to the English Bay waterfront. Continuing their path along Beach and Pacific Avenue, participants can anticipate the iconic Burrard Street Bridge and its challenging yet memorable crossing with its long, steep hill. Finally, the race concludes at BC Place, marking the end of the route.
Throughout the race, crowds cheered and supported participants as they ran a scenic route through downtown Vancouver, all while enjoying stunning views of the city!
To conclude the race, participants were welcomed at BC Place, where they could explore sponsor booths, enjoy refreshments, and collect free goodies. The lively atmosphere added to the day's excitement, as everyone mingled and celebrated their achievements.
For forty years, the Vancouver Sun Run has brought people from all walks of life together, fostering fitness and community engagement among participants of all abilities. SFU’s Vancouver campus is proud to celebrate this milestone and the hard work of those who took part in this event.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Vancouver Sun Run. Completing a 10km run is a remarkable accomplishment. We look forward to seeing you again next year for another thrilling race day!
