Wellness Programming

Wellness Classes

All SFU Vancouver students, staff, and faculty are welcome to join us for the free wellness classes listed below! All classes take place in the SFU Vancouver Wellness Studio.

Wellness classes for the Spring 2025 semester run from January 21 to July 31.

Using the Wellness Studio:

To use the Wellness Studio, you must be an SFU student, staff, or faculty member and complete an SFU Athletics & Recreation Waiver once per academic year (September-August).

Location: SFU Vancouver Wellness Studio, room 2530, Harbour Centre, 515 W. Hastings St.

SFU Athletics & Recreation Waiver:

*Online Waivers: Once you have completed the Waiver online, please take a screen shot and send to vanadmin@sfu.ca, or forward the confirmation email you receive to vanadmin@sfu.ca. A record will be kept of online Waiver completion so that you do not need to fill out a hard copy of the Waiver in the Wellness Studio.

Please Note: No registration is required. Attendance to classes is first-come-first-served and limited to 15 people per class. Classes can fill up quickly and when they reach capacity, we will not accept any more attendees. Please arrive early as access to class will end at the posted start time.

Tuesdays

January 21 to March 25

11:45am - 12:15pm Meditation with Sarah Parkes and Laurie Anderson
Please join us for our new wellness offering—Meditation! These guided meditation sessions require no prior experience and can help manage stress and anxiety and enhance mood, self-awareness, and emotional regulation. These weekly sessions will be co-led by Sarah Parkes from SFU's Health and Counselling Services, and Laurie Anderson, Executive Director of SFU's Vancouver campus.

*No equipment is required; chairs and cushions will be available.
Tuesdays

January 21 - July 29
12:30 - 1:15pm Dynamic Stretch & Strength with Amanda Mason
This class will mobilize participants through active stretching in the spine, shoulders, and hips. Leading into deep core activation, body awareness and bodyweight stability exercises will be used to ignite the core and improve postural alignment. Participants will work to develop a strong mind-to-muscle connection to increase cardio endurance and stamina, and will leave feeling energized and refreshed. All levels, including beginners, are welcome.

*No equipment is required, but you are welcome to bring your own mat.
Wednesdays

January 22 to July 30
12:30 - 1:15pm Mat Pilates with Amanda Mason
Participants will dive into a practice that enhances core strength, flexibility, and overall body alignment. This class will focus on the fundamental principles of Pilates: precision, control, and mindful movement. Our Pilates practice will emphasize the connection between mind and muscle, aiming to build stability, enhance flexibility, and promote overall well-being. No Pilates experience is required and all levels are welcome.

*Please bring your own mat. We will not provide any mats or props.
Thursdays

January 23 to July 31
12:30 - 1:15pm Hatha Yoga with Pamela Ferman Hatha Yoga, with a focus on alignment, pairs seated, standing and on-the-back poses with breathing techniques. This class will flow slowly and smoothly from one posture to another, with some long holds in between for deeper fascia stretching. A combination of flexibility, strength, balance, movement, and stillness will be used throughout the class. Participants will leave feeling more grounded, energized, and balanced between body and mind. All levels, including beginners, are welcome!

*Please bring your own yoga mat. We will not provide any mats or props.
