Celebrating Canadian Hero Terry Fox at SFU’s Vancouver Campus
2024 marks the 44th anniversary of Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope. On Wednesday, September 18, SFU students, staff, and faculty came together in a vibrant display of community spirit to honour Canadian hero and former SFU student, Terry Fox.
Before setting out on their run or walk, participants gathered at the Harbour Centre lobby, where the excitement was already building! Many grabbed Terry Fox merchandise, including bracelets and pins, while others entered the draw for a chance to win a 2024 Terry Fox t-shirt. The lobby was full of anticipation, as friends and colleagues connected, and showed their support for Terry’s legacy.
This year, participants at SFU's Vancouver campus experienced a new route that highlighted the stunning beauty of our city. The scenic run and walk along the seawall provided breathtaking views of the North Shore, which everyone enjoyed. Whether participants chose to run or walk, the atmosphere was filled with support, cheer, and a shared commitment to Terry's vision. The combination of the new route and the collective enthusiasm from our campus community made it a day to remember.
While the Vancouver campus took in the stunning views along the seawall, the Marathon of Hope was also celebrated across SFU’s Burnaby and Surrey campuses, where runs and walks took place at each location. The collective participation across all campuses highlighted the deep commitment of the entire SFU community to Terry's cause, making this year’s event a truly university-wide effort.
As we reflect on Terry Fox’s incredible journey, we’re reminded of the profound impact one individual can have in the fight against cancer. SFU's Vancouver campus is honoured to continue Terry’s legacy. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event a success!
