About the Lunch 'n' Learn:

Time:
12:00 - 1:00pm
Location: Online via Zoom

Over the last decade, governments and the world’s largest corporations — from The Coca Cola Company to Amazon, Apple to Unilever — have taken up the cause of combatting modern slavery. Yet, by most measures, across many sectors and regions, severe labour exploitation continues to soar. Corporate social responsibility and supply chain legislation are not working. Why? And how can we more effectively combat forced labour during this moment of rapid transformation in supply chains amidst COVID-19 and shifting geopolitics?

About the Speaker:

Our guest speaker is Genevieve LeBaron, Professor and Director of SFU’s School of Public Policy and an award-winning researcher who investigates the business of forced labour in global supply chains and the effectiveness of government, industry, and worker-led strategies to combat it. The author of many books, academic journal articles and book chapters, Genevieve was elected to the College of the Royal Society of Canada in 2020 and has held visiting positions at Yale University, Sciences Po Paris, and the International Labour Organization.
