Requirements for the Statistics major or honours program (internal transfer students)
Students who wish to transfer from another academic program at SFU to the Statistics major or honours program will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Such students must normally satisfy the following two criteria (which apply only to courses taken at SFU):
- B- or higher in each of STAT 270 and STAT 285. Only grades based on the first attempt at each course will be considered (i.e., repeated courses will not be considered).
- A GPA of at least 2.25 for the Statistics major program (and at least 3.0 for the Statistics honours program) across all STAT, MATH, MACM, and CMPT courses.
Students who do not satisfy the above criteria (e.g., students who have transfer credit for STAT 270 or STAT 285) may still be considered for admission at the discretion of the Undergraduate Chair. In these cases, typically, performance in STAT 330 and STAT 350 (and overall GPA in STAT, MATH, MACM, and CMPT courses taken at SFU) will form the basis for assessment.
Students should consult the Statistics Advisor for guidance about courses and program requirements. Further information about the program admission procedure is available here.
Students who wish to transfer to the Faculty of Science (as well as enrolling in the Statistics major or honours program) should contact the General Science Advisor (scadv@sfu.ca).
Requirements for the Statistics minor program
To be considered for admission to the STAT minor program, students must have
- Completed the lower division requirements of the program and
- Obtained a grade of at least C+ in any STAT course taken at SFU (except STAT 100 or 180).
