Living on the edge -- The risk of damaging earthquakes on BC's south coast

ABSTRACT: Professor Clague will present the scientific evidence that shows that large earthquakes happen on BC's south coast. He will discuss the likely impacts of future earthquakes of different types and sizes. Based on the lessons provided by recent New Zealand and Italy earthquake disasters, he will comment on measures that have been taken to improve the seismic resilience of the Vancouver building stock and other infrastructure, his perception of priorities for the expenditures of public funds for this purpose, and earthquake emergency response.
