Abstract
The 2016 Presidential Election promises to be one of the most important in U.S. history. Hillary Clinton stands ready to shatter the glass ceiling and become the first woman President. In her way is the brash Donald Trump. Running on a populist platform with more than a dash of misogyny, racism and xenophobia, Trump has broken the mold for what it means to be a major party candidate. Many fear that he threatens the very fabric of U.S. democracy. As Election Day approaches, I discuss how we got here, the forces that will shape the outcome on November 8th, and the implications for the future of U.S. politics.
