Walk Along DeBoville Slough, North Side

July 21, 2010

Time: 10:00AM–12:00PM

The next SFURA walk will be on Wednesday, 21 July at 10:00 a.m. Bob Horsfall will lead the walk, which is rated as easy. Since the walk will be along a series of dykes, participants are advised to bring sunscreen and suitable insect repellant. Bring your lunch/snack.

Driving directions:

In Port Coquitlam, drive Southeast along the Lougheed Highway a little less than 2 km beyond the Coquitlam River bridge, and turn left (north) onto Coast Meridian Road. Proceed about 2 km and turn right (northeast) onto Apel Drive, then right again (east) onto Victoria Drive, which you should follow to its end at DeBoville Slough. We will assemble at the parking lot there at 10:00 a.m. for our walk.

The route we will walk:

We will walk along the north side of DeBoville Slough (one of our earlier walks was along the south side) to the Pitt River, proceed north to a smaller slough which takes us west toward Minnekhada Park, arriving at the Addington Marsh Viewpoint in that park (we didn't visit this viewpoint during our trip into the park on a previous walk). Total one-way distance will be a bit less than 5 km.

If it is too hot for the full walk, there are several stopping points along the way (weather reports call for clear and sunny). If it seems that the walk on the flats will be too hot, we can vote to divert over to Minnekhada Park and walk to the Addington Viewpoint in the shade (much shorter walk – about 5 km total).

If you have questions, email Bob Horsfall.

Special note: If anyone is interested in leading a walk or walks, please contact us. To continue having walks every week, we will need more leaders.
