Walk on the West Vancouver Seawall

January 27, 2010

Time: 10:00AM–12:30PM

The next SFURA walk is along the West Vancouver seawall on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 10:00 AM. Jay and Carolyn Burr will lead the walk. This scenic walk is level, mostly paved, and umbrella compatible.

Driving directions:
From the Upper Levels Highway, exit at 15th or 21st Street (22nd if coming from the West). Drive down the hill past Marine Drive (stoplight) and turn right onto Bellevue Ave. Turn left on 25th Street, cross the tracks and immediately turn left or right to find parking. Walk down 25th Street to the pier, where we will meet.

The route we will walk:
We will start at Dundarave Beach, walk SE along the seawall past Ambleside to a duck pond, about 3 km, and back. There are many interesting species of wintering ducks feeding along the seawall and in the duck pond. There is a chance we will see a River Otter or Seal. Bring your binoculars; Jay will bring his telescope. If there is interest, we can take a side trip up 21st Street to tour the new West Van Recreation Center and the West Van Seniors Activity Centre. In Dundarave we can have lunch together in the Red Lion, a British-style pub.
If you have questions, you can email Jay Burr or Ted Cohn.
