Deer Lake Walk

December 02, 2009

Time: 10:00AM–12:30PM

The next SFURA walk is a second Deer Lake Park walk on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at 10:00 AM. Leigh Palmer will lead the walk which he rates as Easy.

Driving directions:

We will meet at the west side of the Shadbolt Centre parking lot, at the entrance to Century Garden. Parking is free. Map.

The route we will walk:

The route will depend upon weather because we may have to avoid a ravine which is treacherous if wet. The length of the walk will also be determined by the weather. Many people walk in Deer Lake Park with umbrellas. Wear walking shoes appropriate to the day's weather. The length of the walk will be approximately five kilometers. Leigh will provide commentary on significant features, both natural and man-made, and on the history associated with this part of Burnaby. Among these features will be the Ceperley Mansion, a great blue heron colony, the Oakalla Prison Farm, streams that flow into Deer Lake, and the Baldwin House (designed by Arthur Erickson).

If you have questions, you can email Leigh Palmer or phone him at 604-299-3731.
